I'm people-focused and technology obsessed. I've been floating around the Boston tech scene for several years, but currently make my home at HubSpot, leading an amazing team of implementation specialists.
Originally, it was a role as a Corporate Sales Engineer which brought me to HubSpot. I spent several years working with large companies across the country to solve their marketing automation needs. I've always found Sales Engineering to be incredibly rewarding - working in an aggressive environment, balancing people skills with technical problem-solving. In a SaaS business model, a Sales Engineer is more than just a Sales resource. They're an extension of the Services team, tasked with finding scalable solutions that will not just close, but retain prospective customers, and an extension of Product, bringing technical and feature feedback to the Development team.
Prior to HubSpot, I held several odd-jobs. I started my career out of college as a Private Equity Fund Accountant at State Street. I earned several awards in the Alternative Investment Services division for work done automating many of our day-to-day operations. I was eventually promoted, and oversaw the daily operations of several other fund accountants before leaving to explore a more technical role.
From State Street, I moved to SS&C Technologies, where I ran the Support desk for a division working on fund accounting software. It was my first introducton to customer service in my post-college life, and I loved the combination of quick-thinking and problem-solving, while helping people meet their goals in the software.
After SS&C, I moved to a Mobile Enterprise Application Platform startup called Verivo Software (née Pyxis Mobile). At Verivo, I transitioned from Mobile Consultant, to Network Administrator, to Sales Engineer attempting to find a niche where I could provide the most value company-wide. Working as a Network Administator in particular was one of the most valuable experiences of my professional life - introducing me to many of the concepts I'd continue to gain exposure to in further technical roles. (I recommend everyone spend a year in IT. You'll learn patience, humility, and an incredible amount of technical knowledge.)
